    Plaquenil is the devil! Worked well 1st 2 mts. After that I had issues with my vision, felt waves of nervousness, and extreme anxiety where I started to question my sanity. Hallucinated, broke out in rashes and crying spells. Plaquenil is a DMARD which has been prescribed for years to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. When the first biologic DMARD received FDA-approval in 1998, and as other biologics followed in subsequent years, it appeared as though Plaquenil would become less prescribed. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

    For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

    Plaquenil didn't work for me after 4 months of 200mg per day. When it was put up to 400mg daily it eventually worked after about another two and a half months. My rheumy suggested that I stop it for a month every year to give the body a rest. Plaquenil should be administered with caution in patients having glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase G-6-PD deficiency. Dermatologic Effects Dermatologic reactions to Plaquenil may occur and, therefore, proper care should be exercised when it is administered to any patient receiving a drug with a significant tendency to produce dermatitis. Plaquenil is used in the treatment of sarcoidosis but its main use is in the treatment of malaria. One of the side effects of taking the drug is that it affects eye sight, and eye tests, especially field of vision tests need to be done every six months.

    Hi there, I normally post on the arthritis board, and due to toxicity of the Plaquenil after 2 years, I have had to discontinue it, since I failed the visual field testing.
