Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines called quinolines. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. Optical coherence tomography OCT, multifocal electroretinogram mfERG, Humphrey visual field 10-2, and/or autofluorescence are employed by ophthalmologists for screening.2 Current guidelines recommend that patients should undergo a baseline ophthalmological examination upon starting HCQ, with annual examinations beginning 5 years after the initiation of therapy in non-high-risk individuals.3

Our office has been including a second diagnosis for the disease related to Plaquenil use. We aren't seeing denials using that method but from a coding standpoint I don't know if that is a 'more correct' coding or if we are just billing different insurances and getting different responses regardless of our using a second dx code. ICD-10 Coding for Eyecare Exa 22 Code for allergic conjunctivitis of both eyes 23 Code simple episcleritis of the right eye 24 Report an after-cataract that is not obscuring vision, right eye 25 Report drusen of the macula, right eye 26 Report myopia of both eyes 27 Code for a screening for long term plaquenil use 28 Code for a. The ICD-10 section that covers long-term drug therapy is Z79, with many subsections and specific diagnosis codes. Because Plaquenil does not have its own specific category, clinicians should use Z79.899—Other Long Term Current Drug Therapy. But getting the right code is just one step in the process of correctly documenting the encounter.

Compare Plaquenil vs Methotrexate - Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an effective medication for autoimmune conditions and malaria that comes with less side effects than other DMARDs. Otrexup methotrexate is the first-choice treatment for many types of cancer and arthritis, but it has many side effects.

Sjogren's syndrome - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic Sjogren's syndrome can be difficult to diagnose because the signs and symptoms vary from person to person and can be similar to those caused by other diseases. Side effects of a number of medications also mimic some signs and symptoms of Sjogren's syndrome. Tests can help rule out other conditions and help pinpoint a diagnosis of Sjogren's.
