    Plaquenil for mctd

I've read numerous horrible things about the side effects of this drug, but I know it is necessary to prevent more damage to my body. I am currently on 20mg of Prednisone a day and was chastised by my new doctor about being on such a high dose as kidney issues are common with my disease.

The maximum dose of Plaquenil is 6.5 mg/kg of ideal body weight per day, regardless of whether a person is overweight, underweight, or normal weight. One kilogram kg equals 2.2 pounds. Women with lupus who are OVER their ideal body weight should go by these dosing rules 5’ 7” or higher - up to 400 mg Plaquenil daily Usually, treatment for UCTD consists of some combination of analgesics and NSAIDs to treat pain, topical corticosteroids for skin and mucous tissue, and Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. Plaquenil probably won’t protect you from getting Covid-19, but it should make it less dangerous and shorten the lifespan. I hope that answers some questions. I have decided to take next week off and keep my kids home for the next week.

My new doctor said she "is treating this like Rheumatoid Arthritis" because joint and muscle pains are my worst issue. However, I have to say that the steroids have helped my swelling and inflammation TREMENDOUSLY since starting them.

  3. Apr 06, 2014 I have been taking plaquenil for uctd for about 6 years or so. Can't live without it. Supposed to take couple months to kick in but worked for me within 2 days. If I miss a dose, I feel it a day and a half later- my legs like lead, really lousy, etc. I am extremely sensitive and responsive to it.

    • Plaquenil and corona lupus.
    • Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil.

Plaquenil takes time for it to kick in 4-6 months. Once it kicks in you'll feel a little better and not as fatigued and achy. You'll need to be sun aware too because it will make you sun sensitive. Mild mixed connective-tissue disease MCTD may be controlled with NSAIDs. Arthritis/arthralgia can often be controlled with NSAIDs and hydroxychloroquine. Low-dose oral corticosteroids or low-dose methotrexate is reserved for more refractory synovitis. Plaquenil and other anti-malarials are the key to controlling lupus long term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives. For this reason, you can think of anti-malarials as a sort of “lupus life insurance.”

My Take on New Ocular Screening Guidelines for Plaquenil. I am lucky as a rheumatologist in practice for more than 30 years to have only had one malpractice lawsuit. But it was for alleged Plaquenil related eye toxicity, and believe me, attornies will grab any guideline they can as "Standard-of-Care" if it suits their case. All to say, we treat patients, not guidelines, but we all need to aware of these.
